Why-Fish Radio Podcast #5

Listen Now (mp3)

This week we go to work on helping you fish. We discuss how to get set up for ice fishing. We start out with the basics of rod, reel, auger, etc and move up to shelters and even talk about when it is a good time to hire a guide or rent your equipment from a resort. I think you will find this topic to be very informative to help you get started.

Enjoy

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays from all of us at why-fish.com Winter has arrived in full force and the ice is ready to be enjoyed pretty much anywhere in the upper mid-west. I urge all of you to get out and have some fun fishing this winter. Spend some time with your friends and make some memories on the hard water. Even if you spend more time drinking hot chocolate than fishing it is all good because you are enjoying youself.

Have a safe and happy holiday!

Hot action and a cold winter

It's all starting to happen folks. The ice is on most of the lakes and the action is hot. Reports are coming in from all over of hot first ice action. Just today we have heard about good pike action at Devils Lake, hot walleye action at Lake of the Woods and the big walleyes are biting on the Red River in Manitoba. If you are into catching alot of fish and enjoying the winter before the really cold snap hits and the duldrums of winter set in now is the time to get out and fish.

As always remember that first ice can be dangerous so exercise caution when going on the ice.

Get out and fish

Ice Fishing is here

It is December 10th and ice is finally here. I have been hearing reports of some fantastic catches already on the Red River at Selkirk, Manitoba. It appears that most of the smaller lakes have at least five inches of ice on them and should be safe for walking traffic or even an ATV. I am betting by next weekend the bigger waters like Lake of the Woods and Devils Lake should have safe ice for walking. Remember ice fishing is an opportunity to get out with your family and friends to enjoy the great outdoors during a long winter.

Remember to be safe on the ice and have fun.

HAPPY ICE FISHING

Why-Fish Radio Added to Podcast Directory

The Why-Fish Radio Show was recently added to one of the internet's best podcast directories... Podcast Bunker.

At Podcast Bunker "we listen and rate each podcast on our list. Podcasts are rated on audio quality and content. Along with each listing is a 30 second preview of the podcast and an easy to use podcast quick guide."

This is less of a directory and more of a site that reviews and recommends certain podcasts and for Why-Fish Radio to be included is an honor.

Thank you to Bruce at the Podcast Bunker.

You can also check out Absolute Net Radio's other podcast, The Miller Report at Podcast Bunker as well.

Late Beginings (Article)

Every time you read an article or watch a television show about fishing you will see or hear some remark to take a kid fishing. Take a kid fishing is always followed by it is for the future of our sport. That statement is one thousand percent true. If we don’t teach our young people early they won’t experience or understand the rewards of fishing.

I didn’t get this chance and the vast world of fishing almost passed me by. When I was growing up I didn’t get to go fishing but three times. Two were at 4-H camp where they give you a rod with a hook worm and bobber on it and told you to wait until a fish bit. That’s fine except nobody knew to set the bobber depth. Needless to say you’re not going to sell a ten year old on fishing. The other time I went with a friend of my family. This time it was pull a crank bait around the lake for a couple hours. We did catch one fish and it was exciting but still not enough to make the sale.
