Why Fish Radio Episode #80

Listen Now (mp3)

This week we did the show from the deck at Cats on the Red. We visited with Stu the owner and with our good buddy Jim Stinson (Canuck)

We spoke about some of the goofy bites happening on the lower Red. We talk about getting prepared to fight some of the biggest channel cats on earth. Since we had Stu sitting with us we discussed the hottest new thing in the area, Ice fishing at the mouth of Lake Winnipeg. It is one of the most under utilized and best spots to catch numbers of walleyes in Manitoba.

While on the trip we catfished with Canuck in some new spots to us and had a blast. As you can see in the photo Dokken figured out that this would be a great place to fish. We were warned of a poor bite but really didn't notice since we were almost always catching cats and big ones at that. Canuck put on a catfish catching clinic for us at first but we did catch up.

One day we took a trip over to Crowduck Lake. This lake is a pristine clear lake that is full of walleyes that are willing to bite. With two boats and five people we managed to catch 300 - 400 walleyes in about eight hours with nothing more than a jig and Berkley Gulp. Crowduck is truly a fly in lake without the airplane.

Why Fish Radio Episode #79

Listen Now (mp3)

This week we talk about the heat and how it is affecting not only the fish but the fishermen. We spent the weekend in Devils Lake and the heat was unbearable. But if that isn't it we got up at 5:30 am to fish out of the heat. That is shocking to us as it is.

We also preview the big trip to Lockport to Cats on the Red and the trip to Crowduck Lake in Manitoba. All indications are for a good trip and we are really looking forward to the trip.

Why Fish Radio Episode #78

Listen Now (mp3)

This week we have a short show. There was some catfish calling and a nice evening to be in a boat. The highlights this week start with a co-worker and friend Don Anderson who went on his first ever Red River excursion last Friday. He landed seven fish with a 14 and 15 pounder for the biggest.

The Red is drying up and we need rain fast. There are reports of large dead catfish floating. With the spawn just ending and warm water that is falling fast the older fish are getting stressed. Nothing to alarmed about at this point but something to keep an eye on. We are attempting to get a biologist on for next week to talk about fish stress in hot conditions.

Only two weeks and counting until the big Lockport trip to see Stu at Cats on the Red. Should be a great time.

Why Fish Radio Episode #77

Listen Now (mp3)

Well lots of fishing has happened in the past week. Brad Durick fished at Devils Lake for four days with family members. Not a huge bite in terms of numbers but the quality of the fish was excellent. Also, installed the brand new Vexilar Edge 3 depth finder. That turned out to be a real adventure.

Dokken caught some fish in the Undisclosed body of Water then fished the river to some good success for catfish. The bite is turning on after a lull in the action all up and down the Red River. Only good things to come from here.
